Welcome to The Simple Pleasures In Life, a new series of blogs for 2016.
Over the coming year I plan to share with you the little things, the simple things that bring me not only pleasure but also comfort when life feels challenging. Sometimes as we rush around doing and achieving we can forget about the simple things in life that can restore and nourish us, make us smile, reconnect us to the things and people we love. Perhaps even re-connect us to our humanity.
My aim in writing is to remind us that the joy and miracle of life is present everywhere if only we care to look, notice and enjoy.
And I’d love to hear about the simple pleasures in your life too. Feel free to send me a photo plus short narrative explaining what your simple pleasure means to you and if it lands for me, I’ll publish it here too. The address is

The Simple Pleasures In Life: Number One.
Oh the simple pleasure of breakfast in bed!
Now I know this isn’t for everyone (complaints about crumbs, discomfort etc) but for me this is how my day starts well. A big pot of tea, some charming crockery, a bottle of fresh, semi-skimmed milk (a simple pleasure in itself and possibly requiring a blog all of its own), a bowl of sugar-free meusli. Again the sugar-free element may push this in to the slightly punishing zone for some of you, in which case get that nice, white packet down from the cupboard and sprinkle away. Or simply buy the sugary version.
Otherwise, the added raisins provide more than enough sweetness for me and a bonus is when the spoon accidentally on purpose manages to add more raisins than is strictly necessary – joy!
